Therapy for Infertility, IVF, Miscarriage & Childlessness

IVF & Infertility Support Group

PLANNED TO START FEBRUARY 2027

Would you like to join an eight-week online therapeutic support group for women dealing with infertility and IVF?

This group is for women who have experienced one or more unsuccessful IVF cycles and are still in the midst of their fertility journey. This includes cycles where no eggs fertilised, embryos did not develop sufficiently for transfer, or an embryo transfer did not result in pregnancy.

The group is online and open to women across the UK who are not currently pregnant. It will be led by Saff, a therapist who specialises in infertility, IVF and miscarriage support. A separate group is planned for women seeking support specifically around miscarriage.

The purpose of the group is to help you feel less alone and isolated, and give you a safe space to share and process what you are going through with other women who understand. Through our conversations and reflections, the group aims to help you feel supported and better able to cope with the uncertainty and profound emotional challenges of this difficult journey.

The group will be limited to eight women so it feels contained, and to ensure everyone has the opportunity to share.

How will the group work?

The group will include six to eight women, with me as the facilitator.

We will meet on Zoom once a week for eight weeks, on a Monday or Tuesday evening for 90 minutes, from 7pm–8.30pm. The first group is planned for early February 2027, with the evening and dates to be confirmed.

Each session will have a general theme relating to the experience of living through infertility and IVF, with space to talk about what you are experiencing and to hear from other women in the group. Although I will guide the discussion and introduce themes, the group will be shaped by the women who are in it and what feels important to them.

My role is to guide the discussion, make room for each woman to contribute, and help us explore what comes up with care and understanding. You will have opportunities to speak, without pressure to share more than feels comfortable.

There may also be an optional reflection to take away between sessions such as a short exercise you can try during the following week if you wish.

What kind of support?

The focus is on shared support and reflection, guided by me as a therapist - someone who specialises in supporting women with these issues and who also has personal experience of living through them myself.

The group offers an affordable way to access therapeutic support and explore your experiences in a safe and contained way. It also allows you to feel the support of a group of women who have been through experiences that may be similar to yours, helping you feel less alone.

The same women will attend throughout the eight weeks, giving you time to get to know one another, build trust and share experiences. To maintain confidentiality, we will use first names only, sessions will not be recorded, and all members will be asked not to share what was discussed outside of the group.

The group does not replace individual therapy, but can be attended alongside it.

If you are interested in individual therapy you are welcome to contact me to arrange a free introductory call or book a session.

What will we explore?

Weekly themes might include:

  • The grief and disappointment of infertility and unsuccessful IVF cycles.
  • Relationships, friendships and feeling lonely and isolated.
  • Waiting, uncertainty, hope and fear of another disappointment.
  • Changes in identity, confidence and trust in yourself or your body.
  • Decisions about treatment and recognising your own needs and limits.
  • Finding room for life alongside infertility and IVF.

These types of themes will guide our conversations, with flexibility to respond to what members bring each week based on what you are individually dealing with.

Cost and joining

The full eight-week programme costs £300 for 8 x 90 minute sessions.

This can be paid in two instalments:

  • £150 to secure your place following an introductory conversation,
  • And the remaining £150 before the programme begins.

Before booking, we will have an individual conversation of approximately 15 minutes (free of charge) to explore whether the group is suitable for you and your current circumstances, and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

If you would like to join the group, I would ask that you do so with the intention of attending all eight sessions (I do understand unforeseen circumstances can arise though).

Who will facilitate the group?

This group is facilitated by me, Saff Mitten, a counsellor and psychotherapist specialising in IVF, infertility and miscarriage.

Alongside my professional experience of supporting women with these issues, I bring personal understanding of having lived through infertility, multiple IVF cycles (including donor egg IVF) and pregnancy loss. So I understand how profoundly difficult this journey can be. You can learn more about my personal journey and why I do this work here.

I am a therapist with more than a decade of experience seeing clients, and I have a Masters in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a Registered Member of the BACP, and a member of BICA, the British Infertility Counselling Association.

Additionally, I write a lot about these issues and have created a resource library of articles about different aspects of IVF, infertility and miscarriage. You can explore my articles on these topics here.
